CASTING-Finding The Right Actors For Your Movie

In The News

This is a very important part of the filmmaking process. You should not put someone in your film just because you know them or they are related to you. This would be the biggest mistake that you can make. The worst thing that you can do is cast someone in a role and they are not what you envisioned for that particular character.

You do not want to watch the film after it is complete and hate the way that actor portrayed the character. It is imperative that you set up auditions for your film and choose the best actor for that role. Have the actor auditioning for any particular role, act the scene out and not just read the written words on the page of the script. You want to see how that actor will bring the character that you have written to life.

Also allow the actor to improve during the audition, so that you can see how creative that actor is and what they can bring of themselves to the film. It is also very important that the actor that you choose for the role knows what they are getting into beforehand, especially for roles that involve nudity. You want to make sure that the actor knows everything that their character will be doing in the film, so that there is no surprises come time to shoot the film. Discuss with the actors their comfort level with nudity or whatever other content in the film early on to avoid problems later.

It is a good idea to video tape the auditions and watches them as many times as possible, so that you can decide the right actor for a role. Do not select the first actor that you see and like for a role. Doing so will most likely be a big mistake, unless you find an actor that just blows you away in their audition. It is also a good idea to talk to a potential actor, to get a feel for their personality. You don't want to be stuck with an actor that has a bad attitude for however long you plan on filming.

This is probably one of the most important parts of the audition process, MAKE SURE THAT YOU CAST DEPENDABLE ACTORS IN YOUR MOVIE. Most likely if an actor is late for auditions then they will be late to the film set. That is not always the case, as uncontrollable things do happen in life but in most cases i have found it to be true. Also if you cast someone in a role and you try to get in contact with them for rehearsals or to give them any information on filming and they never call you back, then replace them before you begin filming. If they don't return calls during Pre-Production then they won't when the actual production begins

Following this advice will make casting your film much less of a headache. Make your film the best it can be by having the right cast. Happy Filmmaking!

This is to me the most important part of making a movie. You will not be able to put the film on screen that you envisioned while writing, if you do not cast the right actors for those roles. Here are a few key things that I would advise anyone to do as far as casting. These are all based on my own personal experiences.
